Death of inmate Steltzer reported in Fort Madison

Fort Madison, Iowa — An inmate at the Iowa State Penitentiary died at 7:46 a.m. on August 10, 2026.
Richard Thomas Steltzer, age 82, was serving for crimes committed in Warren County.
Steltzer's sentence began on February 2, 1979.
